A little over ten years ago, Assent’s founders sought to revolutionize how companies across industries and the world handle regulatory compliance. A lot has changed since then, but the goal of creating positive change in the compliance world has remained constant. That goal has informed much of the success we have found, and where it will continue to thrive.

Investing in Expertise

From the beginning, Assent’s founders understood that building a product that supports companies in their compliance journeys required them to first understand the compliance landscape. That’s why Assent invested in a diverse team of compliance experts to not only help build our solution, but to support our clients both directly and through engagement with regulatory bodies around the world.

In the ten years since its inception, Assent has leveraged the diverse experience of our subject matter experts to provide clients and suppliers with direct access to expertise in the form of a rich Knowledge Base, events, webinars, and more. This focus on free guidance and education over straight profit has helped build a community of informed professionals that can feel confident in their decisions, and has set us apart as a company that empowers not only its clients, but individuals across the industries in which it operates.

Leading Industries

Assent’s reach extends beyond individuals operating in the compliance landscape. We are also active in the development of regulatory requirements, best practices, and industry standards, and are able to speak to the needs of Assent clients and the industry as a whole. This provides our clients a competitive edge, allowing them to prepare for industry changes in advance of their counterparts.

The most recent example of this is the European Union (EU) Waste Framework Directive (WFD) Substances of Concern In articles, as such or in complex objects (Products) (SCIP) database, which comes into effect in January 2021. Our subject matter experts are involved in the discussions surrounding the design of the database, and the associated data submission process for companies.

Throughout these discussions, Assent has championed client and industry needs. Our subject matter experts have challenged the database design to ensure it takes into account how technology can best be leveraged to improve the deployment of the database and its user experience. This includes allowing system-to-system connections between the SCIP database and platforms like Assent’s, and, prior to the database rollout, advocating for solutions to the challenges companies outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) face.

The SCIP database is not the first time Assent has made its mark on the compliance landscape. Because the Assent Compliance Platform is industry agnostic, we maintain expertise in product compliance, corporate social responsibility, and vendor management, as well as in many different industries. As such, Assent’s subject matter experts were also involved in the creation of the Slavery and Trafficking Reporting Template, the first publicly available tool for the sharing of conflict minerals data. Assent also helped pioneer and launch IPC-1754, one of the most comprehensive data exchange standards released to date.

Combining Passion & Profit

Assent and the people behind our success are passionate about compliance. Highlighted by PTC Windchill as the best compliance solution on the market, much of Assent’s value comes from our commitment to helping not only our clients, but the industry as a whole. In our first decade, Assent has continued to go above and beyond to identify gaps in the market and provide access to tools and information that can help companies build a better world as well as a better bottom line.

Assent’s Knowledge Center, a resource of regulatory FAQs, webinars, and more, averages almost 50,000 hits a month. This collection of compliance knowledge is available for free, with no login required, and includes a number of tools suppliers can use to improve their reporting. Early on, we learned the value of providing free tools to an audience beyond clientele, including material declarations for IPC-1752 and IPC-1754. In order to provide the best possible solution for our clients, Assent needed to provide information and resources and support a more informed, more transparent supply chain. This dedication to support has only continued with the recent deployment of Assent’s SCIP Registration Center.

In the same vein, Assent has connected over 500,000 companies to support the sharing of part and product data. Not only has this allowed clients to improve data collection within the Assent Compliance Platform, but it has extended the reach of compliance knowledge across industries. Assent aims to help these hundreds of thousands of people across the globe — across time zones, languages, and business cultures — perform due diligence more effectively.

What’s Next for Assent

In the last decade, Assent has aimed to do more than simply sell a supply chain data management solution. One of the only companies in the tech industry to attain an Advanced rating under the United Nations Global Compact, we have been at the forefront of the compliance landscape, supporting transparency and ethical business practices. In the years to come, we will continue to support the evolving regulatory landscape by growing its network of suppliers, and helping companies across the world drive ethical, sustainable business.
