Assent Acquires IPOINT: FAQ

About the Acquisition

What did Assent announce?

Assent has acquired IPOINT, a company based in Reutlingen, Germany that specializes in lifecycle assessment, product carbon footprints, and product stewardship. IPOINT is now part of Assent and will operate as Assent (formerly IPOINT). Together, we will help manufacturers and distributors understand not just what’s in their products, but also the environmental impact those products have across their entire lifecycle.

Why did Assent acquire IPOINT?

Manufacturers need to understand their products in two ways: what’s in them, and the impact they have on people and the environment. Regulations like Battery Passports and the EU’s Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation are pushing companies to be more transparent about their products. IPOINT has deep experience in lifecycle assessment and product sustainability, and pairing that with Assent’s compliance and supply chain expertise means we can offer customers a more complete picture, in one place.

What does this change about Assent?

Assent is still the same company, with the same focus on product compliance and supply chain sustainability, just with more capabilities. Adding IPOINT’s expertise means we can move faster on things like Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) and start building toward what companies will need for Digital Product Passports (DPPs). It also strengthens what we can offer manufacturers in the automotive industry and across the EU, where sustainability and transparency rules keep evolving.

Does Assent work with automotive manufacturers?

Yes, Assent has supported automotive manufacturers and their supply chains for a long time. IPOINT adds specific expertise in automotive compliance, including lifecycle assessment. Together, we’re better equipped to help automotive manufacturers and suppliers in North America and Europe keep up with regulatory and sustainability requirements.

Who’s leading the combined company?

Michael Southworth, Assent’s CEO, will continue to lead the combined company. Peter Schmidt, IPOINT’s CEO, will stay on in a leadership role during the integration.

Is Assent a stable, long-term partner?

Yes. Assent has been growing steadily for years, and this acquisition builds on that — it expands our capabilities and our presence in Europe and in the automotive market.

For Assent Customers

Does this affect my contract, pricing, or support?

No. Your contract, pricing, and support stay exactly as they are. Nothing changes for you right now, and if that ever does change, we’ll tell you directly and ahead of time.

Will prices go up because of this acquisition?

No, there are no price changes planned because of this acquisition. Any pricing changes down the road would be communicated to you directly, per your contract terms.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

Your existing Assent customer success or account manager is still your main point of contact. That relationship isn’t changing.

Will my Assent products or workflows change?

No, not right now. If anything about your platform changes in the future, we’ll let you know directly and with plenty of notice.

Is my data affected?

No. Your data stays secure and is still governed by your existing agreements. This acquisition doesn’t change how Assent handles, stores, or processes your data.

For IPOINT Customers

I’m an IPOINT customer — what does this mean for me?

Your products, services, and support stay the same. You’ll keep working with your current IPOINT contacts, who are now part of Assent. Over time, you’ll also get access to Assent’s compliance tools and its supplier network. The IPOINT team will be in touch with more details as things progress.

For Partners

Does this change our partnership agreement?

No. Your existing agreement and your main Assent contact stay the same. We’ll be in touch separately about any new opportunities this creates.

Does this create new opportunities for partners?

It could. The expanded platform opens up more ground in supply chain transparency, lifecycle management, and automotive compliance — areas that connect well with what our partners already offer. Assent’s partner team will reach out to talk through specifics.

What about IPOINT’s existing partners?

Those relationships continue as-is during the integration. Over time, we’ll look at aligning partner programs where it makes sense for customers and partners, and IPOINT’s partners will hear directly from the IPOINT team about that.

Europe

What does this mean for IPOINT’s operations in Europe?

Nothing changes operationally. IPOINT’s Reutlingen headquarters continues running as it does today. IPOINT’s local expertise and customer relationships are a big part of why this acquisition makes sense.

Is Assent still committed to Europe?

Yes. Assent has had a dedicated team and office in Amsterdam for close to a decade, and this acquisition deepens that presence further. Europe is a priority market for us, not an afterthought.
