How We’re Driving Supply Chain Sustainability

Assent has issued our annual Corporate Sustainability Report, detailing our sustainability journey for the 2021 reporting year, including environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), Assent is committed to transparent reporting on our sustainability performance, and we publish our comprehensive report online for public disclosure. Sustainability reporting has become an imperative for businesses across the globe to keep up with the demands of customers and investors.

A major topic of the 2021 report is our journey to building an ESG foundation that will allow us to scale and mature our ESG programs based on data-driven decisions. We’re currently transforming our sustainability efforts from a corporate social responsibility (CSR) focus to a more strategic ESG program. This means we’re engaging with stakeholders and team members to learn what’s most material to Assent and to collect the data needed to set ambitious goals.

The report also highlights some of Assent’s sustainability accomplishments in 2021, including:

  • A complete renovation of our Canadian office with significant energy-efficiency improvements
  • Our corporate giving and community involvement
  • Our efforts to protect team member health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic

2021 was also a year of exceptional growth for Assent. We’ve refined our focus from “supply chain data management” to deeper “supply chain sustainability management,” and achieved the rare distinction of “Unicorn” status in the Sustainability Technology sector by earning a valuation of over $1 billion USD.

Our Journey: Why Move Toward an ESG Framework?

Investors and markets have made a decisive shift away from abstract CSR reporting and now favor manufacturers and organizations that follow standardized ESG frameworks. This is true for Assent’s customers, and for the way we manage our own environmental and community impacts. ESG reporting is all about standardization and transparency — a perfect fit for us, as data experts with a mission to help complex manufacturers see deeper into their supply chains and increase their transparency. By taking this year to collect the data needed to establish a formal ESG approach, we have aligned Assent with the same expectations and market pressures that face the manufacturers we serve.

We recognize that CSR remains a vital part of deep sustainability and a comprehensive ESG program, which is why you’ll see our CSR efforts detailed in the report alongside other formal ESG performance metrics from the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
